IREB:

Director: Mr. Mamadou Diakite
Assistant Director: Mr. Iba Conde plus several heads of departments
(Climatology, Primatology, Geology, Ecology, Genetics...)

1. On arrival at Bossou, any researcher or student must register with IREB administration and with the police and military in Tuo.

2. Anyone working at Bossou must inform the IREB which guides they intend to use for the period of time they will be carrying out research. They must also inform them if they are to travel and use a Bossou guide(s) outside the Bossou Natural Reserve.
Finally for the purpose of good collaboration, it is vital to keep IREB informed on a regular basis about your movements and activities.

GUINEAN VISA RENEWAL:

Visa extensions for the Guinean Visa are now free for researchers and students as of October 2001. The Charge d'Affaires at the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research should handle the renewal process. You can go through the Direction de la Recherche Scientifique who will help you to contact the right people for the process.

SERINGBARA

Two campsites: Gahtoy and Kiepa

Guides:
Kassie Dore (1st Guide and Chief of Village)
Fromo Dore (2nd Guide)

Potential Assistant Guides:
DeGaulle Zogbila
Fokeye Zogbila

Temperature and Rainfall: Based in the village, 10,000 FG/Month.

YEALE

1. Cpt. Cisse, director of the Nimba Reserve, needs to be informed when researchers or students are working in the reserve.

2. Guides in Yeale are:
David Gray (1st Guide)
Anatole Gogo (2nd Guide and Chief of Village)
Filbert Pahon (3rd Guide)
Anthony Go-pu (4th Guide)
Alexi Wanseu (5th Guide)

3. The guides have built two campsites: one by Kpanton (20 min from village) and the other within the reserve. This latter camp is 3 hours and 20 min walk from the village and is named Camp Yanleu. The guides have also been working very hard to maintain paths in the forest that we use on a daily basis to track the chimpanzees. This has enormously facilitated the work in the reserve by allowing us to gain access to areas that were difficult to get to in the past and to move around more rapidly and noiselessly through the forest after hearing chimpanzee vocalizations or spotting a party of chimpanzees.

4. Temperature and Rainfall (based in the village) 10,000 CFA/Month

BOSSOU

The Suzuki
YOU MUST MAKE SURE THE CAR PAPERS ARE IN ORDER
Any student or researcher should be careful that all the papers for the car are in order. This includes Insurances (Yearly basis: 1) SOGAM and 2) CDAO (for coverage abroad as in Cote d'Ivoire), 3) the Vignette and 4) the Car Technical check-up (Yearly basis). The Technical check-up should preferably be done in Conakry, there is no formal infrastructure for such a test to be delivered outside the capital so far.

Post Office
There is a yearly payment for the use of the postal box in Lola (BP44) of 10,000 FG, the new one will run out early June 2002.

DIECKE

Ordre de Mission for work in the "Foret Classee de Diecke" may be obtained from the "Centre Forestier" in N'Zerekore.
