研究概要
1986年からは、毎年アフリカに行き野生チンパンジーの生態調査もおこなっている。
2000年からは、アイとその息子のアユムをはじめ3組の母子を対象にして、チンパンジーにおける知識や技術の世代間伝播の研究に取り組んでいる。
そうした研究を通じて、人間の心や行動の進化的起源を探り、「比較認知科学」と呼ばれる新しい研究領域を開拓した。
