Announcement of "Primate Origins of Human Evolution: From Genes to Mind"
HOPE-GM is an anagram of the research project that was newly funded by JSPS.
HOPE-GM project aims to promote the multi-disciplinary studies on primate origins of human evolution. It covers evolutionary genomics, animal behavior, and cultural primatology.
HOPE-GM is officially funded as the "Invitation Program for Advanced research Institutions in Japan" (Only for Fiscal Year 2009) of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
The JSPS program aims to encourage internationalization of research environments for the Japanese world-leading advanced research institutes/centers. JSPS supports their projects to invite a group of excellent senior researchers and young talented researchers abroad. The projects provide opportunities for young Japanese researchers to work with world-leading researchers from abroad.
The JSPS program covers all fields of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. The eligibility of application is as follows: Japanese universities and research institutions which are adopted as the following institutes/centers are eligible to this program. 1) Inter-University Research Institutes or Joint Usage / Research Centers, or 2) Formulation of Innovation Center of Advanced Interdisciplinary Research-Area or World Premier International Research Centers (WPI). About 15 projects were to be funded. HOPE-GM is one of the top 15 projects.
